Alliance for Corporate Transparency

The Alliance for Corporate Transparency is a collaborative initiative that brings together leading civil society organizations and experts to analyze corporate sustainability reporting across Europe. Launched in 2018 and coordinated by Frank Bold, a public interest law organization, the Alliance conducted the largest study to date on corporate sustainability reporting, examining the disclosures of the 1,000 largest companies operating in the EU. The objective of this research was to provide evidence-based recommendations to improve and develop the EU Non-Financial Reporting Directive (NFRD), thereby enhancing corporate transparency on environmental, social, and governance (ESG) matters.

The Alliance's activities include:

  • Research: Conducting comprehensive analyses of corporate disclosures to assess the quality and comparability of sustainability information provided by companies. This research has been instrumental in informing the development of the European legal framework for corporate transparency on sustainability matters.
  • Multi-stakeholder Dialogue: Facilitating discussions among civil society organizations, investors, and business leaders to address challenges and promote best practices in sustainability reporting.
  • Policy Recommendations: Developing expert guidance for regulators and businesses to enhance the effectiveness of sustainability disclosure obligations and standards.

By fostering collaboration and providing robust research, the Alliance for Corporate Transparency aims to drive the standardization and improvement of corporate sustainability reporting, ensuring that companies disclose relevant, specific, and comparable information about their impacts on society and the environment.
